A Lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has commended the Millennium Promise Alliance and Kuapa Kokoo farmers union for the great collaboration that has resulted in the construction of the first Tele-Agric Consultation Centre in Ghana.
The Ultra-modern facility, which is expected to serve over five hundred thousand farmers will operate in five local languages.
Agriculturist, Prof. Simon Fialor in an interview with rawgist.com advises that the project target plantation crops and priority crops. “Not many countries in the world have that”, he emphasized and encouraged the best use of the facility to positively impact the country’s agriculture.
He lamented that we live in a country where we “assume the market will take care of things. In developed countries, production is regulated based on scientific data to avoid glut or scarcity. In Ghana, we don’t even have data on farmers and what they produce on a regional basis and are hence unable to forecast expected yields.”
He wants MPA and Kuapa to take the lead in acquiring and interpreting agro-information that will benefit the countries agriculture.
During a sod-cutting ceremony in Kumasi for the commencement of the project, Chief Nathaniel Ebo Nsarko; country Director for the kuapa_TeleAgricGhana One Million Community Health Workers Campaign & Millennium Promise Alliance explained that the project will enable farmers call directly for agricultural support and will provide them with information on Agricultural technologies, techniques, inputs, weather among others.
